Make: Reindeer Chocolate Bars

As you all may remember, I have 27 students in my Kindergarten class. That is a lot of "goodie bags" to make for Christmas, don't you agree? And while the thought of giving a bag full of candy and small toys to 5 year olds on a school day makes me cringe :: just a little bit ::, I still wanted to give my kids something sweet, cute, and memorable.

Enter Pinterest: specifically, my DIY gift board.

I found these adorable candy bars that are wrapped to look like Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer. There are variations of this all over blogland, so this is what I did.

First, I went to amazon.com and ordered a box of 36 Hershey chocolate bars.. my total was around $23, meaning I spent less than a $1 on each chocolate bar. Boo ya!

I used construction paper and cardstock to create a reindeer. I measured and cut brown construction paper to wrap around the entire bar... and do I have the best husband or what? He wrapped all of the bars for me.

I used black construction paper to make a tuft of hair for the reindeer's head and red cardstock to make a huge red nose. I drew two eyes (I didn't want to use google-y eyes on something that was going to be thrown away).

Next, I played with brown pipe cleaners until I was happy with antlers. I folded one pipe cleaner in half, then cut another pipe cleaner into fourths. I used two of these to wrap around to make the short antlers sticking out. When you are happy with your antlers, slide them into the brown construction paper wrapping so they are sticking out.

Aren't these super cute?! I purchased some Avery labels and used a handwriting font (from www.kevinandamanda.com) to write a simple message on the back.

Any teachers out there? What did you do for your kids? These could also make cute office/neighbor gifts! What have you been crafting lately for Christmas?

  1. Adorable Chrissy! Such a fun gift!
Last year I made ornaments for each of my students that looked like them, including eye color and clothing similar to how they dressed, using the Cricut paper dolls cartridge... they turned out sooo cute, but took FOREVER. I'm not 100% I would do them again but had fun last year. I know your kids loved their Rudolph chocolates!
