Photo a Day: Week Thirteen

New week of "Photo a Day" where we take a photo for each day of the week!

(Find the button on my sidebar, use it in your post of weekly pictures, and share your link in the comment section! I can even feature you if you leave a link!) These pictures are also on my Instagram: follow me @ chrissydj

Sunday: morning worship at our church! My cute hubster leading worship before he starts preaching!

***skipped Monday

Tuesday: someone is SO mistreated! Aren't baths awful?

Wednesday: we have been learning ALL about animals in preparation for our zoo trip yesterday (so glad that's done!) and we made fish! We used a white crayon for the scales and painted over them with water colors. Produces a cool texture!

Thursday: one pup in my tummy "spoon" and one in my knee "spoon". Love those two cuties!

Friday: my hubs is so good to me! I had been bumming off of his Mac for-ev-er now (I have an HP and the battery is done-zo: if it's unplugged it doesn't work). ANYWAYS, he let me buy a Macbook Air all for myself! It's so cute and itty-bitty, an 11'' (standard is 13''). I wanted the smaller one, because like I said here and here, I like all things mini :) Apple even sent a cute sentiment with the instruction manual :)

Saturday: Nate and I traveled down the road a bit to visit Warrenton! It is a huge outdoor sale, kind of thrifting, kind of antique-ing, and it goes on for m-i-l-e-s. It's only open for two weeks twice a year, so it's always fun to go when it's open! I'll probably go two more times next weekend! I'll show you all more pictures and what I purchased in another post for another day.

I hope everyone is having a relaxing Saturday! We are having dinner tonight at friends' (and former church members) home! Tomorrow will be nice for church and lesson planning for a short week (we have early release Thursday (along with an egg hunt before that), no school Friday, and no school Monday (the rest of our Spring Break, wahoo)! Happy weekend!

New Pillows

I got an eager kick to make more throw pillows after I created my pillow from two napkins (seen here).

I picked up this fabric from Hobby Lobby. I usually go towards calico fabric, softer and more... simple, like a sheet? I guess... geez it's hard to describe fabric! This time, I went with printed duck (I believe that is what it's called). It feels like my napkins from Target. A bit more coarse and structured, definitely makes the pillows look feel more "professional" than calico does... it feels like canvas! I also used the same stuffing... stuff, ha, from Walmart. I stufffeeeddddd that pillow too! Nate complimented its poufiness, haha!

Looks so good on the couch!

I am only TWO lovely peeps away from having 100 followers! That is so exciting!

Help a sister out so I can reach this blog-goal by the end of the week: tell your friends!

And who could say no to these precious faces?

Have a great Monday!

Photo a Day: Week Twelve

Time to share our photos from this week!

I have been taking one photo every day so far (missing a few along the way, which is a-okay). All of these photos are via camera phone, so no need to be a professional here! If you'd like to join me, use the button on my sidebar in your post! Also leave a link to your blog post in the comment section!

Here is this week!

[last Saturday]: my mom and I are hosting a wedding shower for my cousin and his bride-to-be this summer. I was researching invites on this super cute website! Totally wish I could be a party planner!

[Sunday]: we had dinner and dessert at our fabulous friends', the Hansens, house. King Ranch Macaroni and Cheese and this delicious peach cobbler for dessert!

[Monday]: time for somebody's spring hair cut!

[Tuesday]: we made this yummy recipe I found on Pinterest, Avocado Chicken Salad! Uses shredded chicken, avocado, lime juice, green onions, and a little bit of mayo- no real recipe, just eyeball it. Yummy!

[Wednesday]: at church during youth, Chad (our associate pastor) and my friend Sam helped me "grade" (er, check and stamp) my Kindergarteners work!

[Thursday]: driving down a gravel road in Texas... blue skies, gorgeous trees overhanging onto the road... gorgeous! We were heading to a church member's home for dinner.

***skipped Friday

[Saturday]: THE DAY WE GOT TO SEE HUNGER GAMES! This is a picture of the movie screen, hence why it is so dark. At the beginning, it gives a synopsis of the districts and capitol and why they do the Hunger Games, so I snapped a quick picture of the screen when it said "The Hunger Games"! It was SO GOOD! There were different parts added that were not in the book and a couple of moments that ARE in the book that they left out (which bummed me out!) but overall it was a great portrayal and I would see it again right now!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Happy Hunger Games!

May the odds be ever in your favor!

(so excited the movie is finally OUT! hopefully Nate and I will go see it tomorrow!)

Spring Is On My Nails

Gorgeous weather in Texas today (after a HUGE downpour of rain and assorted thunderstorms yesterday)! This calls for a springy [self] manicure!

What sparked this idea? I bought BON BONS NAIL POLISH at Walmart. Um, did anyone else collect these like I did back in the good ol' days? And of course, it's mini-size and I adore all things mini.

Here was my inspiration via Pinterest and this website:

Source: imgfave.com via Chrissy on Pinterest

And here's what I did to copy:

First, I painted all my nails the same color [this soft pinkish/goldish is noticeable enough but not TOO much: very delicate and romantic for spring!] And please forgive me for the marker on my fingers... I do teach Kindergarten :)

I painted only my ring fingers with the glittery glitter nail polish... Again, just subtle enough! Not overly glam... Although compared to my inspiration photo, it looks like I need MORE glitter! Ha!

Super cute! Or am I five years old? If I'm wrong, I don't wanna be right!

Napkins into a Pillow, Yeeeppp

I did it!

Using napkins, I made a pillow!

I had purchased these two [extra long] napkins at Target about a million years ago in the clearance section [a random end cap]. I always knew I wanted to make a pillow, but again, I am l-a-z-y. Finally did it during Spring Break!

I laid my napkins on top of each other to where their "pretty" sides were touching [hence, the "ugly" side was on the outside]. I pinned the edges so I could sew them together, leaving a bit of space so I could turn it right-side out again and stuff it.

I ironed the now-pillowcase before I stuffed it, just to get a lot of the fold wrinkles out of it [from its packaging]. And of course, now viewing the pictures, I can tell I did not get all of the wrinkles. Awesome.

I used this stuffing from Walmart [for $3.47, because I'm awesome like that] and stuffed away. If I could do it again, I'd probably add more stuffing to fill out the pillowcase better.... but I'm a bit of the impatient...

Next, I hand-stitched the hole closed [not my best work, but alas, I teach Kindergarten: not a professional seamstress!] and admired!

Look at it all pretty on my dark brown couch with other blue/green pillows [that don't match, but it's all good to me]. They probably won't stay there, but I wanted to get a feel for what it looked like on the job! A bit lumpy, but those will get worked out. Do you like how the bright blue looks like a beacon of light on the dark couch? Ha!

And I think Oliver [who so desperately needs a haircut] likes it too :)
