A few weeks ago, Nate and I took a 24 hour mini-vacation to San Antonio, TX where we met our best friends, Sam and Scott. We were in their wedding in November and since then, they have moved from our hometown 5 hours away for his youth ministry job, which is still 4 hours away from us. San Antonio is pretty much the in between stop from our two ministry towns, so we decided to take a mini-vacation there for some good food, fun, and fellowship. We had a blast and wish we could get together more often, but weekend trips are hard when both hubs are in the ministry... so this Friday/Saturday trip was perfect! Here's what we did...
Friday night, we met at our hotel, which was on the Riverwalk (a river that runs through downtown: lots of hotels and restaurants on it, plus a boat ride that goes through it... very fun and festive!) and unpacked/got ready. We shared a room, so that made it more fun as well: don't worry, it was a suite! We had plenty of space. We had dinner at Landry's steakhouse, which was fabulous, then decided to go see "Jack the Giant Slayer" at the IMAX. Surprisingly good! On our way out of the theater and back to the Riverwalk, we happened upon the Alamo at night... so naturally, we stopped for a photo shoot! Rememberrrr the Alamooooo! And Texas' birthday was the next day, March 2, so it was only fitting :) It's nice that there aren't a bajillion people in the pictures either, which is usually the case when you visit during the day.
The next day, we checked out of our hotel and went a little past the Riverwalk to Mi Tierra, one of mine and Nate's favorite restaurants. There's a Mexican market right outside as well, so lots of shopping and entertainment too.
The restaurant is open 24 hours/day and has a bakery in the front with Mexican treats... yumm! It is also decked out for Christmas every day of the year with tinsel and lights and whatnot... I mean it is DECKED. OUT. And the food is delicious!
It was a gorgeous day, so after lunch we headed to the SA Zoo... it is a wonderful zoo! It was crowded, but not annoyingly so, and the weather was perfect for walking around. I took a picture of Sam with her tiger cup :) Gotta love zoo souvenirs!
After the zoo, we went to the mall for a little bit and also got some frozen yogurt, then we parted ways. It was a short trip, but a fun trip nonetheless! And getting to spend time with dear friends is always a wonderful blessing! So do you take weekend trips with friends? Let's hear it!
Happy Friday!

Looks like you had fun! I want to go to Texas again, I haven't been to San Antonio though.
ReplyDeleteCame over from For Lauren & Lauren :)
Wow! This looks like it was a good time! I'm stuck up here in Wisconsin where it has been less than 10 degrees outside this week, so I'm a little jealous ;)
