[love] Halloween Trunk or Treat

Better late than never, right?

Our church hosted a Trunk or Treat for Halloween, basically where cars park and decorate their trunks and pass out candy from the back of their cars. We also had bounce houses, cotton candy, and hot dogs with the fixin's! We had a great turn out!

They were "banished" to the backseat for a bit... they were just too excited! And here, you can see a small glimpse of Chloe's tiger costume... yep, a bow.

 

This picture was a pure miracle... they're both laying down... still... looking at me. Crazy!

It was a great night had by all! We had a blast putting the event on and serving the community and it seems that everyone who came through had a blast too! Half of my students even came to the event: they all kept telling me, "Mrs. Johnson! I'm coming to your party tonight!" Hahaha gotta love Kindergarteners.

Hope everyone has a wonderful week! We have a field trip on Friday to a farm: this will be my third year to go to this particular farm, so at least I have that going for me! I have 22 students and about 16 parents going too: love parental involvement!

I am still here, I promise! Shopping/dinner date Tuesday, Trunk or Treat Wednesday (expect a full post next week!), surviving the aftermath of a Halloween on a Wednesday with 21 five and six year olds today.... Yeah, I haven't been around much this week. BUT I promise I'm still keeping up with your blogs from my phone. Will make the rounds with comments soon! Heading to Dallas for the weekend after a MUCH NEEDED early release day tomorrow. I will check in with you all soon! Until then, here is a peek from our Halloween :)

[favorites] Pumpkin Style

For this week's Four Favorites for Friday, I have turned to the lovely season of Fall... more specifically, Halloween, to share four great ideas incorporating pumpkins. I haven't purchased any pumpkins yet for my front porch (I have a scarecrow out there, along with a plastic Jack-o-lantern and many gorgeous fall flowers... but no pumpkins!) so maybe this inspiration will get me in gear.

[one]: How fun is this? Instead of carving the generic Jack-o-lantern face, use your drill and make designs and/or patterns. Then pop your candle/light in and watch the fun begin without all of the tedious work! Genius. (photo link only: if you know its original source, let me know!)

[two]: These pumpkins are right up my alley. I painted polka dot pumpkins last year and "monogrammed" centipede pumpkins the year before, so painting pumpkins is my sign of a good time. Plus the added bonus of the gorgeous ribbon? Beautiful! Ramblings of a Southern Girl did such a great job on these pumpkins: so fun!

[three]: Anything with a "J" or "Johnson" on it is good with me. Using a Silhouette, you could cut out letters or designs on cardstock or scrapbook paper: the possibilities are endless! This would look super cute on a front porch for trick or treaters to see! (this is a generic link to a main site, not to a specific post... so here is the link to my Pinterest pin as well)

[four]: This is such a great idea for a table centerpiece: candles visible in the pumpkin tops! Use the drill bit thingy that has a rectangle... thingy on it... you know, instead of a straight drill piece, it has a rectangle on the end of it? And it can make wide circles? HA I sound ridiculous. Just click the link to see what I mean. And I am a carpenter's granddaughter... Don't tell Grandpa (Mom and Nate, I'm talking to you two)!

People are just so creative. That's one of the fun things about Pinterest! And blogging! Seeing everyone's creativity... wondering, duh- why didn't I think of that! Such fun!

Happy weekend! We are enjoying Nate's parents being in town- they get to stay for three nights!!! That's a big deal when it is a weekend AND you're a minister (Nate's dad is a music minister). Can't wait for the fun to commence this weekend!

[love] Costume Preview

Yes,  I make my husband and dogs dress up for Halloween. This year, we are having a Trunk or Treat at our church again (food from the church and candy from our car trunks that are decorated and such: click here to see our fun plus the pups' costumes from last year). However, Nate has been slacking for the last couple of years on the costume front. I have just been festive and have worn orange and black... but THIS year, we are stepping up our game. Not to full-fledged costumes (I'm not that brave) but we will have a theme and we will all coordinate. YES NATE, WE WILL.

I wanted to dress up as the full-fledged gang from "The Wizard of Oz" but Nate nixed the idea of dressing up as the Tin Man or a Scarecrow (obviously I would have been Dorothy and Oliver would have been Lion... obviously). So when I suggested this idea and that he merely wear a shirt with "oh my" on it, he was game. Stay tuned in the next few weeks to see how I steal borrow this amazing idea!

My Fall "Mantle"

I have already posted on my fall house here, but I wanted to focus on my mantle to participate in Layla's linky party on fall "mantles" (it can also be shelves, like mine is)!

My shelving unit that I decorate for all holidays :) (sorry for the dark quality of pictures: our dining room has ZERO natural light)

I purchased these Halloween letters at an outdoor antique fair thing. So cute! Candlesticks and eerie, black spiderweb-like cloth behind it.

I purchased these letter die to spell out "love" in front of a picture of Nate and I. Well low and behold I had the exact letters to spell out "evil" too: pretty appropriate for Halloween! A spiderweb candy bowl that is currently filled with leaves and a gourd until I purchase candy!

Make: Paper Pumpkin Banner

I saw this adorbs pin on Pinterest from Better Homes & Gardens...

So I decided to make my own with the word "BOO" on them! I used patterned scrapbook paper and jute string. It is now hanging above my "mantle" (er, my shelving unit thingy). My pictures are not cooperating, but here are simple instructions:


1. Cut out orange scrapbook paper into circle/ovals, depending the shape you want for your pumpkin.
2. Fold back and forth, accordion style.

3. Attach a little stem made out of brown paper.
4. Cut out "BOO" letters using a Silhouette or just write it yourself and cut it out!
5. Add jute to make it cute :)

I have two doors that I would like to share: and yes, I've shared them before... but, it's okay!


First, my drug free door :) "We Would Rather Eat Bugs Than Do Drugs!" covered with spiderwebs, spiders that my students made, and a picture of them eating a gummy worm. We won 1st place too!

This was my classroom door this year :) "We Are WILD About Kindergarten!" And all of the students' names are on the monkeys. So fun!
