Make: Woven Cork Board

**I used this tutorial from Emily at Jones Design Company: head over to her blog to see a full-on tutorial, but here's my simplified/Cliff Notes version :)

After seeing Emily's (JDC) woven cork board, I wanted one so. bad. Such a simple update that makes a huge difference! She has her hanging above her bed, but we placed ours in our foyer: for notes, pictures, little things we like. Basically a catch-all to introduce our guests to us :)

Gather supplies: cork board, staple gun, pins, scissors/cutter (whichever you prefer), sharpie,  and burlap.

Lay out your burlap and measure it to fit your cork board, with a few inches of overhang so you can pull the fabric taut.

Measure to cut your strips for the weaving: I did every three inches.

Cut. And try to be straight... I was not kind of was not.

Strips!

One by one, staple them along the frame, making sure you use the correct strips for the correct side (there is a long and short side to a rectangle, but you should have made sure of this when you measured and cut)!

Flip it over and lay out the long side's strips, like so.

Start to weave... over, under, over, under, each strip...

Get your OCD on and complain about the straightness/wrinkles/etc and then get over it :)

Flip it over carefully and pin each end... pull it  t-i-g-h-t.

Flip it back over and adjust as necessary.

Staple, pull out a pin, staple, pull out a pin. Trim the excess when you are finished.

Flip back to the front and trim the little strings.

Have your hotness of a husband hang it up for you!

Now you can embellish it: keep in mind that this is n-o-t finished, and I want to put a "J" up there... but Nathan dropped it and broke it and now it needs to be hot glued we are having technical difficulties with it. And please ignore the wonkiness of the wrinkles. Go away, OCD. Go away.

(recent cruise picture, 2011, and one of our first pictures from dating, circa Feb. 2007)

One of our engagement pictures (circa Nov. 2008) and the lyrics to our first dance from our wedding.

A few rosettes...

A card Nate wrote me on our 6 month "dating" anniversary: it has some of the sweetest words in it, ever. Such a sweet memory :)

Ta-da! Will update soon once we hot glue that "J" get that "J" under control :)

Linking up!
